Legislation to Enhance Protection for Consumers Against Unfair Trade Practices

Date: 04/10/2012

On 04 October 2012, Mr. Lo Ho-lam (Chief Trade Control Officer) and Ms. Rose Mao (Trade Control Officer) from the Hong Kong Customs delivered a talk to IPRPA members on “Legislation to Enhance Protection for Consumers Against Unfair Trade Practices”.

The seminar aims at introducing the newly revised “Trade Description Ordinance” related to the prohibition of “unfair trade practices”. Through examples, the speakers illustrated various business fraudulent methods and explained the provisions specifying the remedies and enforcement actions that Hong Kong Customs may take against these “unfair trade practices” to better protect consumers’ rights.

The seminar successfully enriched IPRPA members’ understanding of the newly revised “Trade Description Ordinance”, and helped foster better cooperation between Hong Kong Customs and the IPR Industry.
