Public-Private Partnership to Combat Counterfeit Medicine

Date: 25/08/2011

On 24 August 2011, a special seminar entitled “Public-Private Partnership to Combat Counterfeit Medicine” was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (HKAPI) and the Customs and Excise Department at the Headquarters of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau, Customs Headquarters Building with the honorary presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Luke Au Yeung.

The seminar marked another milestone in the cooperation amongst Hong Kong Customs, HKAPI, Department of Health, Consumer Council, pharmaceutical industry, academia and patient’s group through deliberation of enforcement strategies and other measures against counterfeit medicine. As Deputy Commissioner Au Yeung said, “We note that in recent years, the partnership in combating counterfeit medicine is getting stronger,” the seminar was indeed another great opportunity for all stakeholders to bond together and further consolidate this alliance. And that is going to continue in the days ahead. “Such an extended partnership has helped us move closer towards our shared and common mission - to ensure the safety of medicine and to secure the integrity of the import and export channels as well as the local retail market so that only safe and effective medicine reach the hands of the patients,” Mr Au Yeung added.

Taking this opportunity, Hong Kong Customs would like to extend her appreciation to all speakers and participants for all their sharing and discussion in the seminar to make it a success.

The Special Seminar has also been reported on the website of the Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry :
