CEPA and Intellectual Property Rights Seminar

Date: 17/10/2005

Implemented from 1st January 2004, the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) ensures Hong Kong will be "economically interlocked" with the Mainland and that Hong Kong companies will benefit from the opening-up and liberalisation of the Mainland beyond China's commitments in its WTO accession. With CEPA, 90% of Hong Kong domestic exports to the Mainland can enjoy zero tariffs, providing long-term opportunities for Hong Kong companies to establish business on the Mainland.

Given the eased market access between Hong Kong and the Mainland and Hong Kong’s regime for stringent protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR), Hong Kong will be the supplier of choice to the Mainland market. As creativity and innovation will be key determinants for Hong Kong businesses to succeed on the Mainland, it is important for you to understand more about intellectual property, what it encompasses, and how to safeguard your own intellectual property rights. Importantly, companies should also be aware of their responsibility in respecting the intellectual property rights of others while doing business. This includes adopting proper software asset management processes to gain the full value of your software and reduce the risk of using unlicensed software.

Key parties sharing the same mission in upholding intellectual property rights in Hong Kong –the Intellectual Property Department (IPD), Customs & Excise Department (C&E),Business Software Alliance (BSA) of Hong Kong and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) – are jointly organizing a seminar to help Hong Kong businesses understand the intellectual property issues that will impact them as they develop their business in Hong Kong and on the Mainland.

Details of the seminar are as follows:
Date: February 22, 2005 (Tuesday)
Time: 2:30 - 4:30pm
Venue: Pacific Place Conference Centre (European Suite), 5/F, One Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty, Hong Kong
