To promote the awareness and exchange on protection and respect of intellectual property rights (IPR) between youngsters from Hong Kong and Guangdong, Hong Kong Customs and the Guangdong Copyright Bureau continued to organise various exchange activities for the secondary schools students from both sides.

On 17th and 18th January 2013, a 25-strong delegation comprising the Director and Deputy Director of Guangdong Copyright Bureau, the Director of the Zhaoqing Copyright Bureau, other officials from the Guangdong Province, as well as the teachers and students from a secondary school in Zhaoqing visited Hong Kong. Hong Kong Customs further invited four members from the Youth Ambassadors Scheme to join the visit to enhance the exchanges between students from both sides.

Mr. Vincent Lai, Head of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau, in his welcome speech to the delegation expressed appreciation for the staunch support of Guangdong Copyright Bureau and wished the exchange visit could be continued in the future to enhance understanding in IPR protection.

The activities organised for the delegation during the 2-day visit were very fruitful. The delegation first paid visit to the Customs Marine Base at Stonecutters Island to learn about the Customs' anti-smuggling enforcement at sea, followed by visits to the Customs Exhibition Gallery, Indoor Firing Range and IPR Enforcement Research Centre at the Customs Headquarters Building to have a broad overview on various Customs duties. The delegation also visited the Intellectual Property Department to familiarize themselves with the mechanism on the overall IPR protection in Hong Kong, and an IPR protection organisation at Cyberport to have touch-and-feel on how creativity was embedded in the latest high-technological products. Besides, students of both sides also performed drama and crosstalk to pass on their dedication to IPR protection to the participants and exchanged creative hand-made souvenirs with each other. The tour came to a successfully conclusion.
