Exchange Visit of Delegation from Guangdong

Subsequent to the YAS Study Tour to Guangzhou in December 2011, a delegation led by the Guangdong Copyright Bureau and Guangzhou Copyright Bureau made a reciprocal visit to Hong Kong between 17th and 18th May 2012. The 25-strong delegation comprising the Director and Assistant Director of Guangdong Copyright Bureau, the Director of the Guangzhou Copyright Bureau, other officials of Guangdong Province as well as the teachers and students from four colleges in Guangzhou. Hong Kong Customs and Intellectual Property Department (IPD) arranged a series IPR protection related programme for the visitors.

On the first day, the delegation visited the Customs Marine Base at Stonecutters Island to learn about the Customs’ anti-smuggling enforcement at sea. They then paid a visit to the Customs Exhibition Gallery and IPR Enforcement Research Centre at Customs Headquarters Building. In his welcome speech to the delegation, Mr. Andrew Ki, Head of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau, said, “I trust the exchange visit would further enhance the cooperation and partnership between the Mainland and Hong Kong in the aspect of IPR protection and contribute accomplishing “Invented in China”. Furthermore, HK Customs arranged YAS members to meet with the Guangzhou students to discuss and exchange views on current IPR issues. Before concluding the first day program, the Guangzhou students performed drama and crosstalk to pass on their dedication to IPR protection to the participants. Their fantastic performances brought the atmosphere to new heights.

In the evening, the HK Customs invited the delegation and YAS members to dinner at the Customs & Excise Service Senior Officers’ Mess, which gave the youngsters another opportunity to explore further on IPR protection against the background of legislative frameworks in the two place.

On the next day, the delegation visited an IPR protection organization at Cyberport to have a touch-and-feel on the latest high-technological products in the market, and experience on how such products might bring about better quality of life in general.
Afterwards, they paid a visit to IPD to familiarize themselves with the mechanism of IPR protection in Hong Kong. After enjoying the lunch hosted by IPD, the delegation went to the Hong Kong Science Museum before they concluded the two-day exchange visit.
