Date: 08/08/2015

Since the launch of the Youth Ambassador Scheme (YAS) in 2006, Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) had recruited 13 local youth uniform organisations (YUGs) with over 250 000 young people participating in it in the past ten years. This year, in order to response to the theme of World Intellectual Property Day- “Get Up, Stand Up. For Music”, a “Songs and Lyrics Creation Workshop” was held in April. The workshop enhanced their understandings of songs and lyrics writing, and also the importance of protecting intellectual property rights (IPR) in sustaining the creative industry. The "2015 I Pledge.YAS Singing Contest" was held at the Charles K.Kao Auditorium of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks on 8 August 2015. The activity was jointly organised by the C&ED and Intellectual Property Department (IPD). The aim of the activity is promoting the importance of respect and protection of IPR through the singing competition.

Mr. Ronald Ng, the President of Baron School of Music, Ms. Catherine Yip, Superintendent of C&ED, and Ms. Jenny Wong, the head of Marketing Division of IPD were invited to be the judges of the contest. A total of 24 teams joined the contest to compete for the Championship, the 1st Runner-up, the 2nd Runner-up and three numbers of Merit Awards. More than 200 Youth Ambassadors and I Pledge members attended as audiences in this show.

Apart from the performance of the contestants, the MC Casey Tze and songwriter singer Siu Yuen were also invited to perform their original songs. They shared their song composing experience, and emphasized the importance of respect and protection of intellectual property rights. An interactive question and answer section was held in the contest, which enhanced the knowledge of intellectual property rights of the audiences. Before the announcement of the contest result, Ms. Louise Ho, Senior Superintendent of C&ED and Ms. Jenny Wong, the head of Marketing Division of IPD delivered speech to encourage the contestants to keep on music creation and appealed to the audiences for support of IPR protection.

The Singing Contest was exciting. Due to the high standard of the performance, the judges decided to add one more Merit Awards to encourage the contestants to continue their development in music.
