To promote the awareness on protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) among the youngsters of Hong Kong and Guangdong, Customs and the Guangdong Copyright Bureau jointly organised exchange visit for both sides’ secondary students in current years. The exchange visit for 2014 was held in April.

Mr. Zhong Qing-cai, Deputy Director of Guangdong Copyright Bureau, led a delegation of 22 members, comprising officials from the Guangdong Province and teachers and students from two secondary schools in Guangzhou, paid a visit to Hong Kong on 10th and 11th April 2014.

Mr. LEE Hon-wah, Head of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau, delivered his welcome speech to the delegation. He expressed his appreciation for the staunch support of the Guangdong Copyright Bureau, and expected the exchange visit could be sustained in the future to enhance the youngsters’ awareness on IPR protection.

The activities organised for the delegation during the 2-day visit were very fruitful. The delegation visited the Customs Marine Base at Stonecutters Island to learn about the Customs' anti-smuggling enforcement at sea; followed by visiting the Customs Exhibition Gallery, Indoor Firing Range and IPR Enforcement Research Centre at the Customs Headquarters Building for an overview of Customs duties. The delegation stayed at the base of the Hong Kong Adventure Corps at Sai Kung to experience the disciplinary training taken by the youth uniform group. Afterwards, the delegation also visited the Intellectual Property Department to familiarize themselves with the overall IPR protection regime in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars was the last stop for the delegation. Painting sculptures of classic characters in Hong Kong’s comic stories were placed along the 100 meters avenue to demonstrate the creative industry in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the fruitful tour came to a successful conclusion.
