Reward Scheme to Combat Illegal Use of Software in Business

The Reward Scheme is financed by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and fully administered by the Hong Kong Customs.

Reward money shall be payable to a person providing information leading to a raid on a company or other entity in Hong Kong that is using unlicensed software with seizure as stipulated below at the following rates in two stages.

Person supplying the information is required to provide enquiry statements to the Hong Kong Customs in relation to the information.

Initial payment

  • Payment of HK$5,000: information leading to a seizure of 5 to 30 computers installed with pirated software.
  • Payment of HK$10,000: information leading to a seizure of more than 30 computers installed with pirated software.

Additional payment

  • Payment of HK$5,000: information leading to a seizure of 11 to 30 computers installed with pirated software together with any successful criminal conviction under the Copyright Ordinance, Chapter 528;
  • Payment of HK$10,000: information leading to a seizure of 31 to 50 computers installed with pirated software together with any successful criminal conviction under the Copyright Ordinance, Chapter 528;
  • Payment of HK$20,000: information leading to a seizure of more than 50 computers installed with pirated software together with any successful criminal conviction under the Copyright Ordinance, Chapter 528;

Members of the public can provide information through the Customs 24-hour hotline 2545 6182. All information of the informants will be kept strictly confidential.
